Even with the nearly 50,000 visitors bustling around during the summer, this charming southern beach town keeps its traditional, quiet charm throughout the entire year.
The 8-mile long barrier island of Holden Beach is bound by the Intracoastal Waterway, Shallotte Inlet, and Lockwood Folly Inlet. With a population of just under 700 people the small town charm of this sea goers island continues to earn the distinction earned by National Geographic Traveler as one of the “best family beaches in the country” year after year. Grab your bike, board, or boat and hit the beach or waterway for a full day of fun in the sun.
Lovely coastal neighborhoods sit among the 12,000 acres of subtropical beauty on the island of Bald Head. 10,000 of those acres have been left untouched and host the beach, marsh and maritime forest preserves. A two mile long journey or 20 minute passenger ride on the ferry across the Cape Fear River from the Deep Point Marina in Southport leads you to the many adventures that Bald Head Island has to offer.
